Why is important: Alzheimer’s affects millions, yet progress on treatments has been slow. By making AI tools free and open, Gates hopes to speed up discoveries that could benefit researchers, and patients, worldwide.
HOW TO AI
With the GPT-5 update, ChatGPT has started leaving invisible watermarks in the text it writes. These are narrow non-breaking spaces and zero-width spaces that sneak in between numbers, percentages, and statistics.
They survive even when you paste into Word, Google Docs, or anywhere else. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to detect and remove them in minutes.
🧰 Who is this for
Students submitting essays or reports in Word or Google Docs
Researchers working with data-heavy documents
Anyone wanting clean, watermark-free text from GPT-5
STEP 1: Copy the text
Start by copying any ChatGPT generated text.
Open a tool that can reveal hidden Unicode characters.
Now you have two main options here:
→ Paste your text into any Online Tool that highlights hidden characters
→ Download and paste your text into a code editor like Sublime Text, which displays Unicode codes
Once pasted, you’ll typically see markers like \u200B (zero-width space) or \u202F (narrow space).
If you see these codes, it means your text contains invisible formatting artifacts.

Now that you’ve confirmed the characters, here’s how to remove them:
🔹Method 1: Using an Online Tool
Manually delete all the highlighted spaces.
Copy the cleaned text for reuse.
🔹 Method 2: Using Sublime Text (or any code editor)
Copy one of the invisible characters directly from your text
Open the Find function in your editor (Ctrl + F or Cmd + F)
Paste the hidden character into the Find field
Select “Find All” and delete them in one click
This wipes out every hidden watermark in one step.

STEP 4: Save Your Clean Text
After removal, paste your clean text back into Word, Google Docs, or any editor you’re using.
Check your numbers, stats, and special formatting again to ensure no stray hidden characters remain.
From here, you can safely use the document without risk of hidden formatting issues.
Pro tip: Always run long ChatGPT-5 outputs through a detection tool or editor before final use. It takes less than a minute and ensures your writing stays clean, consistent, and professional.
